
Jon Roach is the Azalea Garden Technician (Summer 2005), and he’s responsible for one of the most diverse and exciting gardens in the South – The Ruby M. Mize Azalea garden. Jon was born in San Angelo, Texas but was raised in Mt. Vernon, Texas, and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1997. After a brief stint at Southern Arkansas University. Jon received his BSc in December 2003 in Animal Science with a minor in Biology. He has worked at a wide variety of landscape firms, enjoys the out of doors, and he brings a talent in maintenance to a garden that needs it. Jon supervises a good number of student assistants and handles the details of maintenance, pest control, plumbing, electrical, and labor challenges with a calm determination. Jon said, “Hey, I really enjoy working in this sector of the arboretum. It’s a great garden – after all, who wouldn’t want to work here? I love being outside and I like the people I work with. Tell folks to stop by and say hi– or just enjoy a stroll of solitude!”
